Church #1

September 1, 2008

I finallly made it to church yesterday.  It was actually kind of an adventure.  There was one church that I wanted to try out and the service started at 8:30 a.m.  So I got up early and got ready, etc.  I looked up the address online and Google mapped the route.  I also brought my GPS along in the car.  Well, I followed the directions and was led to a grassy meadow/empty lot!  So that was disappointing…and odd.  I never did find the place.

So I went to another place at 10:30.   It was nice to worship corporately.  It’s good for the soul.  The church I visited is unlike any other church I’ve ever been to, but I liked it.  The pastor served as an Air Force chaplain for many years, and there’s definitely something very Air Forcey about him (which I can appreciate).  The people were very warm and friendly and the sermon was brief and encouraging.  I think one of the things I enjoyed about this church is that they aren’t trying to re-inevent the wheel.  They’re not trying to do something totally outrageous and original.  There’s no glitz. They’re not trying to impress.  They simply gather, sing, listen to the Word, pray, celebrate communion, share their lives with one another, and spread light and warmth (not that Texas is lacking warmth!)  So it was a good experience.  I will probably go back, but there are other places I hope to visit as well before I make a decision about a church home.

By the way, taking Communion is a tough break when you’re allergic to gluten and wine.

Hey, to answer a question you put on my blog (I haven’t been around the internet much). The relationship between Israel and the Church is that Israel was the OT church and served as a type of the New Testament Church. God has always had one covenant of salvation and that is cross “Testemental” lines. That seems to be the Bible’s teaching regarding the church. If you want more let me know.
Hope things in TX are going well.
    Grace.
