What is the difference between passion and obsession?

When does zeal turn into foolhardiness?

How do boundaries become bondages?

“The man who fears God will avoid all extremes.” (Ecclesiastes 7:18 )

Just my thoughts. Passion vs. Obsession…What is the end result?
With an obsession you have a committed determination to see it to the end. And in the end, obsession produces a release that results in tranquilty and peace. I see it as displaced love. Passion, on the other hand, also can produce peace and tranquilty but not as the end result. It is a deep spiritual craving that is rooted in a specific intent or vision to move further in some way, a form of growth. It is more of a devotion than a committment. You can ask the same question with these two words. Both can be unhealthy (isn’t hate itself a form of passion?…I dont know why I made this a question), but can obsession be healthy?

Hmmm…I’m trying to digest what you’re saying.
So,are you saying obsession is more concerned with the end result? In other words, obsession has an agenda? I’m sure that if we were talking in person, I’d totally understand what you were saying, because that’s how it is between us. Ha.

But perhaps my uncertainty about what you mean further illustrates my point. That is, the difference between the two (if there is one) is so subtle–so subtle, in fact, that we may become neurotic without even realizing it.

It’s funny how this question made me fall right into the trap we are discussing. I’m shooting in the dark here, my brain is barely functioning, but what if obsession is a form of lust and passion a form of love/hate? I don’t think you know there is an agenda with obsession while in it, but I do think once you step out of it you can see one. Don’t you justify an obsession/lust by saying its passion/love anyway? Maybe these words aren’t even interchangeable at all. And I agree, this would be easier if we were in person. I need hand motions/pictures to help me explain my thoughts.
